Accessibility

Our goal

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA on our pages. The site has not been audited by an outside expert yet, so some parts may fall short, and we fix problems as we find them.

What works today

• Everything in text. Every part of the brain, lesson, topic and study guide has its own text page, so you can learn it all without the 3D view.
• Descriptions for pictures. Pictures have text descriptions for screen readers.
• Keyboard. The pages work with a keyboard, and the 3D app has keyboard shortcuts, listed in its help window.
• Readable text. Text keeps strong contrast against the dark background, and you can zoom it with your browser.
• Less motion. If your device asks for reduced motion, the site's animations stop, the home page's spinning brain stays still, and the 3D brain doesn't turn on its own.

What still needs work

• The 3D view needs a device with WebGL graphics, and exploring it works best with a mouse, a touchpad or a touch screen.
• Screen readers can't describe the 3D view itself. The text pages cover the same facts.
• Some maps in the 3D app use color to show groups. Their names are also shown in labels and lists.
